Food Plots 101

Food Plots 101 will teach you how to produce and maintain high quality, attractive food plots on your land. Together with Scott M. Sell B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. Candidate, we will take you step-by-step through the entire process from design & location to maintaining your plots year after year. Scott Sell is the on-staff wildlife ecologist for Hunting Land Experts, a real estate company that specializes in developing large tracts of land into Quality Deer Management Cooperatives. Scott's impressive academic background and extensive hunting experience combine to give him a unique perspective as a wildlife manager. Scott works with landowners to manage their property using scientifically based approaches designed to increase deer herd quality, manipulate deer movements and increase the probability of harvesting mature bucks, while simultaneously conserving natural resources, maintaining healthy wildlife populations, and enhancing property value.
Over the past 16 years Scott has conducted university-sanctioned research on topics ranging from mice to maples to moose, from Michigan to New Mexico to Montana. Scott's main focus has been big game habitat relationships involving nutrition, vegetation composition, structure and succession. He has conducted research on white-tailed deer, mule deer, moose, and caribou including multi-year radio telemetry studies of both white-tailed and mule deer. Currently, he is conducting research for the University of Minnesota and the National Park Service related to the dynamic relationships between moose, wolves, and the forest vegetation at Isle Royale National Park in Michigan.
